ABSTRACT
Hackett, John Winthrop (1910–) British army general. Educated at Oxford University, Hackett was commissioned in the army (1931) and spent much of his early military career in the Middle East. During World War II he was an operations officer in North Africa (1942), then commanded 4th Parachute Brigade (1943) which he led in Italy and in the Battle of Arnhem (September 1944).
