ABSTRACT

College and university campuses across the nation were vital centers of Asian American activism. Students and community allies formed coalitions that took forceful actions to compel institutions of higher learning to heed their demand that education be a tool of liberation. Campuses served as incubators of Asian American action, places where students came together, were politicized, and built new identities and organizations. However, the impact of campus activism spilled over into communities as well, as Asian American students endeavored to erase “town and gown” distinctions.
