ABSTRACT

Summary Tacones Lejanos (High Heels) is a carefully and cleverly packaged commercial film that never forgets its audience. The experienced production team delivered exactly the film they intended, and this was followed through with effective marketing, especially in the home territory, Spain. Production values are higher than in earlier Almodovar movies, and the budget - $3.7 million - was significantly bigger than he had worked with before. But the risk was thought to be justified: this was by far the most accessible and commercial Almodovar movie to date. While it dissatisfied some putists, it attracted a much wider audience than his earlier works.
