Danticat, Edwidge (1969–) Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she emigrated to the US in 1981 to join her parents. She was educated at Barnard College and Brown University (MFA 1993), and became a freelance writer in 1994. Her novel Breath, Eyes, Memory (1994), about Sophie Caco's early years in Haiti and her move to the US to be with her mother, incorporates thinly veiled autobiographical references.
