ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the question posed by the man in turn 88: Are you going to be frustrated by how you and your conflict partners interpret communication during conflict or are you going to work on it? As this chapter shows, the interpretation of conflict defies quick and simple conclusions. Without knowing how complex people are in their conflict interpretations, we cannot conclude anything of value to the reader. So we want to be careful in representing the findings and principles

on how people interpret conflict. We refine our review of necessity to provide the foundation for strategic conflict suggestions. First, we want to set the context with regard to people’s capability to be objective witnesses of their conflict episodes.
