More frequently, requirements for land, housing (e.g., flats such as that leased by Caelius: Chapter I, 9), and extra services or labour were hired: such hiring agreements were naturally prone to litigation, and many examples are discussed in Digest 19, 2 (locati conductl). Seneca lists the sorts of things that might be hired.
