ABSTRACT
This chapter will discuss the role of higher education within a lifelong learning framework. The aim of the chapter is to enable you to develop a critical understanding of the purpose of higher education for contemporary UK society, focusing particularly on lifelong learning and widening participation. Three questions have been developed to facilitate this discussion.
