ABSTRACT

Changes in average male and female height Anthropometrical data for the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are more varied than for the eighteenth century. They include: (a) individual data on the heights of army recruits, which have been truncated by the minimum height requirement for conscription; (b) untruncated raw data on the heights of workers and recruits drafted into service after the abolition of the minimum height requirement in 1918; and (c) aggregated, untruncated data on the heights of all recruits drafted into the army between 1874 and 1914.
