ABSTRACT
This chapter examines bank panics in U.S. history and the methods used to manage those panics. Historically, the United States had a more competitive banking structure than other countries and experienced recurrent bank panics. Hence, U.S. history offers the best environment for testing the empirical consistency of the theories developed by the model.
