If we value human life at zero (by refusing to attach a value to it), then we will always choose Project B, even though it has a higher risk to human life, and regardless of the size of that risk . Therefore, to make rational and equitable decisions, we have to be in a position to assess if the extra benefi ts are worth the extra risk to life. This generally requires valuing life.
