ABSTRACT

A few nights ago, Nigel, a sociable, outgoing Afro-Caribbean surfer with many international friends, had slept on the extra bed in her hotel room. She had heard that he had been “couch surfing” since his Austrian girlfriend had returned home, so she invited him over. “Like little kids,” Chelsea explained, they spent half the night talking and laughing. He stayed over again and eventually joined Chelsea in her bed to cuddle. Nothing sexual happened, she told me.
