It’s not as if we need another book on academic publishing. So why are we writing this one? There are now countless self-help texts for academics at every stage of their career. Most offer some useful advice and others have helpful examples and exercises. Very few are grounded in a sound theoretical framework which recognises and explains the complex tangle of identity work and text work shaped and limited by social, cultural, institutional and disciplinary practices. In this book we offer both a combination of theoretically grounded tools to think with and strategies to guide the authoring process. We provide an insider’s perspective on the secret business of academic publication.
