ABSTRACT
The start in the 1960s The term 'educational research ' (Bildungsforschung) has a comparatively short history in the Federal Republic of Germany. Its application can be traced back to the early 1960s which mark a turning point in the history of educational policy in that country. Those were the years when the needs of the educational system, until then regarded as rather an issue of secondary importance, became relevant in discussions both among the general public and in the bodies responsible for schools and other educat ional institutions.
