It is true: your dissertation is about your work and your ability to demonstrate your skills and competence as an independent research worker. That said, no person is an island and your work does not – and will not – take place in isolation. It is often helpful, not to say reassuring, to talk through issues with your fellow students because it is highly likely that the sorts of issues affecting you are those that your friends and peers have been or are currently encountering.
