ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will fi rst provide a quick overview of the scope and impact of IPV and the controversy over how to defi ne and measure the phenomenon of interest. We will then review the theoretical approaches that currently receive the largest attention (i.e., Feminist, Behavioral, Cognitive Behavioral, Attachment, Neurobiological, and Integrative theories) and will briefl y mention other notable approaches. Finally, we will recognize limitations and make recommendations for future theoretical progress in IPV research.
