Continuing Professional Development: Ongoing Support for Developing a Consultative Role With a task of such importance and complexity, for both teachers and their staff development supporters, we must lastly address ourselves to the support and training needs of the supporters, and examine one more feature of a consultatively collaborative problem-solving model: its potential in providing much needed support for these supporters, if they are to operate effectively within and across schools and school services, to enable all staff to develop the 'skills, knowledge and understanding needed to make a reality of [the government's] proposals' of excellence for all children (DfEE 1997b).
