ABSTRACT
Some underperforming schools are failing their pupils so badly that they should be closed; either permanently or re-opened as an Academy under completely new management with private sector support. However, many can raise standards dramatically if given the right support and if their leadership is strengthened. This chapter looks at the remarkable story of how many previously underperforming schools are now providing a good standard of education through the help given to them by a higher performing school.
