ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is limited to a biographical sketch and an outline of Pareto's main economic theories. The more important theories are extensively discussed in appropriate chapters. I hope this chapter will enable the reader to get a total picture of Pareto both as a man and as an economist whose contributions to the science unmistakably carry the imprint of a great thinker.!
