ABSTRACT
Having a “ bosom friend” is an important part of growth and development, as Anne of Green Gables reminds us. So much so, that the social competence of children has been the topic of increased attention in the behavioral sciences in the last 10 years. This mounting interest in the social behavior and relationships of children has also been reflected in research with learning disabled populations (Vaughn, 1985; Wiener, 1987).
