ABSTRACT
Most of the chapters in this book focus on the recovery of the straight spouse. But it’s obvious that a mate’s coming out dramatically impacts the entire family, both nuclear and extended. Moreover, the couple’s unfolding drama also affects their social circle. Sometimes those effects are subtle, almost covert; sometimes friendships simply disappear. This chapter addresses some of the major family and social issues that must be faced when a spouse comes out, particularly the pressing priority of the couple’s children. Several examples of these relationship issues will be followed by analysis and concrete suggestions for positive action.
