Impact ofTrauma on Child Development

The effects of child maltreatment and prenatal exposure to alcohol and drugs last throughout life. These effects negatively impact human development from infancy through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Child development domains affected include: physical, cognitive, sensory, and motor; behavior and emotional; and communication, including language and literacy acquisition.
