ABSTRACT
Legionella pneumophila: A species of gram-negative bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease and Pontiac fever. It has been isolated from numerous locations including tap water, soil, cooling-tower water, aerosolized droplets from heat-exchange systems, human lung tissue, respiratory secretions, and blood.
