ABSTRACT

Though the programme and politics of the Stern Gang ( Lehi-Lohamei Herut Yisrael, 'Freedom Fighters of Israel') changed radically between 1940 and 1949, there is little doubt that its origins lay in Revisionism. An understanding of the group therefore requires an analysis of the political and ideological character of Revisionism, and in particular of its internal struggles with regard to fascism and democracy, which eventually led to Lehi's emergence.
