ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we discuss the differences between girls’ and boys’ reading choices and habits. We discuss favourite genres, including preferences for fiction and non-fiction, and attitudes to reading generally. We conclude with a report of interview data in which children reflect on the influence of gender on their own and their contemporaries’ reading. The Endpiece to the chapter is a short discussion of gender and reading development in school.
