ABSTRACT

The following passage provides a good introduction to Gregory’s understanding of the human condition, the ways he dealt with the Bible, and the moralizing bent of his thinking. It is based on some words in the book of Job: If I am asleep, I shall say: When shall I get up? And I shall await the evening again . . . My flesh is clothed in rottenness and clods of dust; my skin is dried and wizened [Job 7:4f.].
