ABSTRACT
The Emancipated Labour Party was an alliance of the republic’s old economic élite, primarily directors of major enterprises and new commodity producers. It reflected an attempt by this stratum to stem the tide of the disintegration of the economy during the de facto state of civil war in order to influence the decision-making process. The party’s aim was to play an intermediary role between the working population and the country’s leadership.
