ABSTRACT
The French excel in history, sociology and philosophy. As for political writing, there is an impressive heritage: from Jean Bodin (on sovereignty) to Voltaire and Rousseau on the Enlightenment, and Tocqueville on democracy. Contemporary political studies, however, whether by French, British or American scholars, owe much to political science theories developed in the United States.
