ABSTRACT

Significantly, Illeris (2002: 19) also discussed three dimensions - cognition, emotion and society - and it is with the last that I disagree. For him the learning person is cognition and emotion and these occur within society - he omits the individual activity through which we also learn. Consequently, he fails to discuss behaviourism within his framework. I certainly include the social dimension, but it is the whole person who is in the world, so that cognition, emotion and activity are all affected by the social context.
