ABSTRACT
While most of a facilities manager’s functions are carried out behind the scenes, space
planning and management is the most conspicuous part of the job. The way that an
organisation’s workspace is laid out and maintained is a vital part of its corporate
image, giving an important message to visiting customers, potential recruits and
existing employees. More fundamentally, a comfortable, safe and efficient working environment is
essential to enable employees to perform at their best, and to ensure that good use
is made of the space available so that facilities managers bring added value to an
organisation.
