ABSTRACT

No organization is immune from the changing tides of global economic, social, political and technological trends. In the twenty-first century many of the socioeconomic certainties of the twentieth century are crumbling. Strategic HR management involves keeping abreast of the times and developing organizational strategies that prepare organizations not only to respond to changing environmental pressures but proactively to seize the initiative in their various markets. In this chapter we shall consider some of the driving forces for change in the global environment and their emergent impact on the world of work.
