ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with patination on copper alloy artefacts. The subject merits a whole chapter because not only is natural patination replicated on forgeries, but the patina has long been regarded as an embellishment in its own right. The chapter includes sections on natural patination, perceptions of surface treatments in antiquity, a history of patination treatments, and the scientific examination of patina.
