ABSTRACT

Controlling the processing and mixing of your audio and monitoring what you are working on are important elements in any studio setup. There are many options as to the way you accomplish this task. Mixing consoles have been the traditional way to process audio, but now that many of those functions are handled inside the software DAW, software control surfaces have emerged as a new working environment. The mixing console has also traditionally handled the adjustments and controls of the monitoring levels of your sound, but now that many studios do not have consoles, there are many alternative options. There is also the issue of studio monitors (speakers). Why are there so many options, and why won’t home theater or bookshelf speakers work? All of the equipment involved in control and monitoring is constantly changing with new technology, advanced features and more options.
