ABSTRACT

Filmmakers who wish to get a full explanation of filmmaking techniques should read the material in my book, Animation from Pencils to Pixels, pp. 92–135. However, this chapter lesson is a lighter version of the core information you will need to make your course film more effective and have more impact. Film is a subtle language of communication. We see so much of it these days that we take for granted the techniques filmmakers use to express themselves most effectively. The correct or incorrect use of film language can make or break a production. Therefore, an awareness of the core principles of good filmmaking is invaluable for animators embarking on their first film.
