ABSTRACT

When, i n January 1935, L o r d Selsdon's Television Commission made the i r repor t to Government , i t was conc luded that the only way a fair determi-na t ion o f wh ich television system should succeed i n p rov id ing a regular service for the Br i t ish publ ic , was i f bo th were tested over the coming year. Bo th Ba i rd Television and Marcon i -EMI now geared themselves u p for the coming batt le wh ich wou ld determine who should finally achieve the goal o f a regular high-defini t i on television service, due to commence no later than 31 December 1936.
