Controllingtheaudience Variousaudienceconventionshaveevolved.Atconcerts,forexampfe,we expectouraudiencetobesilentexceptforsubsequentapplause,hopefullynot coughing,fidgeting,orreactingaudibly.In'situationcomedy'shows(comedy actioninrealisticsettings)wewanttoheartheaudiencelaughingandclapping throughout,butnotwhistlingorgivinginaudiblesmiles.Theyarenotseenon camera,though,forthiswoulddisruptthe'real-life'presentation.
