ABSTRACT

Film is unique in serving both to capture and to store pictures taken using a conventional camera. In digital cameras, the film is replaced with a sensor that captures images and a memory card that stores them. It may be that there is also some in-built memory that holds the images on a temporary basis but, beyond that, storage is the task of whichever memory card is installed in the camera. For long-term storage, however, completely different systems are normally used.
