ABSTRACT

The reader must be aware that the sinuses are effectively out-pouchings of the nasal airway and that, as a result, diseases of the nose may spread to involve the sinuses. Also, sinus disease may present with nasal symptoms. Here, for convenience, the nose and sinuses are described separately, so that the reader may, piece by piece, build up an overall picture of the system. But in reality, each is connected to the other anatomically, physiologically and pathologically. Furthermore, sinonasal tract disease may present with symptoms affecting the ear and oropharynx.
