ABSTRACT

“I’d like you to lead this effort” lingered in Mark Moore’s mind as he drove home that afternoon. Based on the meeting earlier in the day, it was clear he had the leadership team’s buy-in. He was particularly gratified to feel John Saylor’s support as the CEO. Mark was excited to be leading this highly visible effort. The quality function always seemed to play second fiddle to the manufacturing and engineering functions; here was a chance to be in the driver’s seat for awhile. Excited about the new mission, he grabbed the Six Sigma book and began to study it more closely.
