ABSTRACT

Over the past couple of years, the King County Library System has opened new and expanded structures that were funded by a $67 million bond issue approved by voters of the district in 1988. To its credit, the county system did not try to develop a generic building type and then repeat it endlessly. Instead, each library is the result of a unique design effort, blending the talents of many fine local architects, criteria set forth by the district, and desires of the surrounding community.
