ABSTRACT

The major fry producing areas in China are located in the Yangtze and Pearl valleys. In recent years, other producing areas have been discovered, but they are all of minor importance. In five provinces along the Yangtze, production in 1957 was 13 billion fry or 56.3% of the total production in the entire country. The Pearl River is second only to the Yangtze River in importance, but the principal species here is Cirrhina molitorella. Its production in 1958 was 10 billion fry, accounting for 42% of the national total (see Figure 19.1). 1 - 4 Fish fry producing areas in China. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-u.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781351077699/3f596113-c545-47bf-ab44-ad19933befb7/content/fig19_1.tif"/>
