If we e x a m i n e t h e c o m p o s i t i o n of p l a n t tissueswe f i n d t h a t t h e y a r e m a d e u p off a t s , m i n e r a l s , c a r b o h y d r a t e s , p r o t e i n s , a n d w a t e r , withw a t e r a c c o u n t i n g f o r n e a r l y 90%of t h e t o t a l f r e s h w e i g h t . F u r t h e r m o r e , p l a n t s c a n e a c h d a y loseseveralt i m e s t h e i r o w n weighti n w a t e r t h r o u g h t h e e v a p o r a t i v e p r o c e s s calledt r a n s p i r a t i o n .
