ABSTRACT
An increased use of teams of actors within complex systems has led to the emergence of various approaches for the assessment of different features associated with team performance. According to Savoie (1998; cited in Salas, 2004), the use of teams has risen dramatically, with reports of ‘team presence’ from workers rising from five per cent in 1980 to 50 per cent in the mid-1990s. Over the last two decades, the performance of teams in complex systems has received considerable attention from the HF community and a number of techniques have been developed in order to assess and evaluate team performance. Research into team performance is currently being undertaken in a number of areas, including the aviation, the military ATC and the emergency services domains.
