ABSTRACT
Before we look at the records in detail it is important for the health professional to understand their legal and professional obligations in relation to the documentation. We hear words like civil litigation, negligence, breach of duty and accountability. This chapter explains these areas briefly and simply. It is also explains the basic court structure, which places the legal issues in context.
