ABSTRACT
The geotechnical design process involves many different components, as illustrated in Figure 2.1. One of the most important components is the site investigation, in which the details of the geologic and groundwater conditions at a site are determined. The information obtained in the site investigation forms one of the principal components in evaluating soil properties and is used by the geotechnical engineer to help formulate the design.
