ABSTRACT
Although problem-based learning (PBL) has received much publicity in recent years, the concept is far from new; it has been successfully used in some American medical schools for over 25 years. It began at McMaster University Medical School and has since been implemented in many undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes throughout the world.
