ABSTRACT

Finally, 'complex trauma' or 'complex PTSD' refers to multiple traumas, previous traumas having probably made a PTSD response to a subsequent trauma more likely. The presentation is made more complex because of the interaction of the previous events, particularly when they have impacted on the patient's personality development. Commonly it is seen in people who have survived traumas such as abuse in childhood, which has placed them at increased risk of responding negatively to traumas with a similar theme later in life.
