ABSTRACT
The early Greeks were the first to develop the distinct role of physician, and it is from their language that many of our current medical terms are derived. Hippocrates, a physician from Kos in Greece about 500 BC, is known as the ‘father of medicine’. One of the earliest codes of medical ethics is attributed to him, and still sets standards for doctors today.
