ABSTRACT
Incubation allows increased production, particularly in rare or valuable species. Removing an egg shortly after it is laid often induces the hen to lay a replacement. Poor parenting by some birds means that eggs and/or chicks can be lost in the nest. Removing and artificially incubating the egg can also reduce this risk.
