ABSTRACT
To achieve the business objectives of reduced operating expense and increased pace of service innovation, cloud service customers (CSCs) streamline the service design, transition, and operation phases of the application service life cycle (Figure 5.1). In particular, the service design and service transition phases must execute faster to accelerate the pace of service innovation, and costs must be squeezed out of service operations—as well as service design and service transition—to reduce operating expenses. As CSCs accelerate their pace of innovation, and especially as they adopt Agile and DevOps methods, these phases will overlap more and more. This chapter considers how the development/deployment cycle time can be accelerated by the cloud and how operational efficiencies can be improved in the application service life cycle for cloud-based application services.
