ABSTRACT

Medium access control (MAC) protocols used in ad hoc networks are different from MAC protocols for cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs). In CRAHNs [1], MAC protocols have to address the spectrum sharing function [2] while improving the overall throughput and spectral efficiency. Furthermore, primary exclusive regions (PERs) [3] in CRAHNs can make a significant impact on secondary user (SU) and primary user (PU) communications; therefore, MAC protocols should address PERs, especially when PUs and/or SUs are mobile.
